Review Of Masterclass With Emma M by Tried Tested Loved
September 11, 2018
On Sunday 2nd September, The Brown Beauty Boutique held a MakeUp Masterclass with full Afternoon Tea in the Staybridge Suites Holiday Inn Stratford London. The event has been reviewed by blogger by @triedtestedloved
Here is what she had to say.
As a beauty lover, it is hard to resist the allure of makeup. I love buying new makeup but these days I’m loving online make up tutorials. I think these are fascinating and addictive. Watching the transformations is amazing but recreating the look can be tricky in real life.
I always jump at the chance to learn more about make up so was looking forward to the Masterclass with Emma M.
First off, I’ve seen Emma in action before, worked her magic on people she’d never met before at BeautyCon London. She did a great job with me and I was impressed. Make up events can go one of two ways. You find great products, get your make up done with them, look lovely and buy everything used on your face but it never looks the same if you try it again at home.
Or, the makeup artist can do high fashion or editorial looks - lots of drama and impact but perhaps intimidating if you’re not that skilled and do your make up on the tube. You still might buy everything but not use it much afterwards.
At this session however, Emma was able show and teach. This was a live tutorial and Emma created looks we would use in real life - talking us through every step of the way.
Because it was done over a leisurely Afternoon tea, there was no mad rush. Emma took our model from bare faced, to foundation with base, through to simple contour, highlight and blush. At each stage, we got to see how the products work, how to make the most of your features and a few insider tips too.
Emma dished out a lot of what I’d call home truths - some common-sense advice on how to apply your make up to get it to last, and on how to get the most of out your products.
At the same time it was artistic. Emma created a daytime look and a completely different glamorous evening effect without using one million different products. That was key for me because in reality, you use what you have. Until you realise you need more!!
Also, because the Boutique specialises in Brown Beauty, I knew I’d have a great selection of shades I can actually use, rather than just being limited to 2 or 3 colours. Many of these brands are new to me, so seeing how they can be used means I’m more likely to try them myself. Even without Emma!
Interestingly enough, Emma used the V. Lace eyeshadow palette to do eyes, cheeks and highlight on two ladies with completely different skin tones. Talk about versatile. And that’s just the palette!!
Most importantly, Emma is a great teacher. She answered all our questions and explained things in simple terms but kept it fun and interactive. She’s clearly used to making her clients feel at ease, we all were and thoroughly enjoyed every minute.
We also got a goody bag full of make up - I’ve been using my lipgloss already and the colour is perfect. It is great to test products out and everything was full size instead of teeny tiny samples that never last.
It is tricky to judge what is value for money at this type of event. We had a proper afternoon tea, got excellent make up advice from a professional and a bag full of FREE make up, all for £30. When you consider the organisers and brands involved are independent businesses, a lot of what we got was given away so that is good value.
Would I expect to pay more for all this Masterclass - ultimately yes! But that’s my personal opinion. I’ve been to events and paid more and got less so was pleasantly surprised.
I’ve already started taking Emma’s advice and I’m really hoping there is another Masterclass as I have more questions than before.
Well done to The Brown Beauty Boutique and Emma M.
