Beauty & The Heatwave - Summer Beauty Edit
Boutiquers, we seem to be experiencing a serious heatwave and depending on who you are, it is either fabulous or just way too hot.
Summer is actually a good time to mix up your beauty because our bodies react to changes in environment and that will affect the type of cosmetics you use. If you find yourself warmer than usual, or go on holiday abroad, you can feel uncomfortable and make up and skincare starts to slip or melt - not a good look. Products can behave differently on your skin in the heat, weighing you down or clogging up the pores.
Lastly, there will be the air conditioning wars in places where different people want to freeze you into submission. The change in temperature from outside to inside can mess your skin about too.
Practically then, assuming you still want to look and feel your best, the Boutique has options to add to your routine and save your make up, or to revamp things completely.
Our tips? Prepare, Brighten, Polish and Nourish.
Follow our advice and products will sit better, feel lighter and your true radiance will glow. If you're heading to the beach, be sure to pop these in your bag too. You'll thank us later.
In warmer weather, priming your make up is a great trick. Yes, primers may seem like an extra layer of hassle, but a good one helps everything sit in place and can actually enhance foundation, especially if you’re going for lighter coverage.
We love the Magic Elixir by Brysocrema - a serum product with multiple functions. Shimmery looking but just radiant on the skin, this is the ideal solution to slippery foundation days. It works with powder and liquid foundations and provides extra moisture too.
Why not try the Mineral Veil from LOG Cosmetics or Keziah Keren Mineral priming and finishing Veil? Both rich in mineral pigments, they settle beautifully as powder bases to really enhance your features and your make up. These can be used as light foundations if you are heading poolside and want to keep makeup to a minimum.
We love the Tropicana Blusher by Christal Cosmetics. This vibrant colour can actually blend in many ways to lift your face, give you cheekbones or enhance a darker tone by adding radiance. Don’t be afraid of the colour it is actually a very versatile product that you can use on eyes or even lips too. This is a multi purpose product so handy for travelling.
If you don’t want to splurge, look in your make up bag and fine the bright colours that you have ignored for some reason.
More colour can make you look healthier, if done properly. Go for it. Get creative.
Lips need attention all the time, but more so if you’re going for natural or skin coloured lipsticks.
Try using the Lips scrubs by CLEAN once or twice a week. These gently remove delicate skin and let any lipstick settle better, making you even more kissable.
Another good trick is to use powder or bronzer to finish off your look. Basically, powders are good at absorbing excess moisture and keeping the face looking matte. We all know it’s hot so very matte look won’t last very long.
But, lightly finishing off the face with either a fine powder or slightly darker bronzer powder can maintain that glow and preserve a dewy finish - topping up as and when.
Body wise, this is a perfect time to show off those lovely limbs. Keep ashy areas nice and smooth with Margaret Rose body butters, rich in natural oils and fruit extracts, these slide on quickly and penetrate deeply.
Maybe use a little less than normal, but don’t neglect this step. Margaret Rose also has lovely lotions which are good too if you prefer fluid moisturisation.
For the face, go for your usual moisturiser, maybe use slightly less but perhaps add a serum or a light face oil now and again, to help get deeper nourishment - Check out our facial oils and remember, less is more. Begonia Ylang ylang oil is good for balancing excess oil production on the skin. This makes it good for combination skin. The anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties of ylang ylang oil make it good for soothing skin irritations.
And of course, always use SPF.
Enjoy the sunshine while it lasts!
