Has Rihanna's Fenty Beauty Cracked It?

Has Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty Cracked It? – Beauty Diversity For the Woman of Colour

So Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty launched in the UK at Harvey Nichols this week and the beauty world has been going CRAZY!! Even Knightsbridge station sign was altered to Fenty Beauty for the occasion.

The reviews have been mainly positive and the range has been a SELL OUT. A major success.

Fenty Beauty Knightsbridge Station

The highly anticipated range includes the PRO FILT’R foundations of which there are 40 diverse shades of a light to medium coverage. The foundation is a matte foundation that has a slightly runny consistency designed for everyday wear. This is great for our oily skinned girls, but if you have dry skin watch out! Fenty Beauty appears to want a natural look rather than the full heavy coverage that we have been used to seeing of late.

Fenty Beauty Shade Range

Early reports claim that the foundations oxidise. Fenty Beauty were quick to put out a statement on Instagram that their foundations do not oxidise and suggested that we wait a couple of minutes for the foundation to dry down. As we know drying down is different from oxidizing. This foundation appears to dry down darker so we @Bar London suggest going a shade lighter, especially if buying online.

However, we were particularly interested in the reviews from the girls at the darker end of the spectrum, as this is where normally foundation shades prove more difficult to source and are not so readily available.

Fenty Beauty Match Stix

We also wanted to see how the “Match Stix Matte Skinsticks”, conceal, correct, and contour and the “Killawatt” highlighters looked on the darker skin, in particular “Trophy Wife” which has garnered a lot of attention for its highly pigmented KERPOW in your face gold colour. Not for the faint hearted and defo not one for work!!

We have put the best honest review videos below including the one from Nikki Perkins whose sister Duckie Thot features in the campaign (and is shade 490). Our very own Leomie Anderson is shade 430.

At the time of writing, the other cosmetic houses seem to be running scared. The cosmetic companies that have ignored us for soooooo long are now cranking up the advertising on their darker shades. Estee Lauder and Kylie Cosmetics to name a few but the Marc Jacobs one killed us! When Fenty Beauty start advertising on National TV in the commercial breaks......

Let the battles commence and remember that @Bar London have several indie brands whose cosmetics are formulated with the Woman of Colour in mind. Read more here
