Having Difficulties In Finding Halal Cosmetic Products?

    August 22, 2017

Halal food products have been readily available for many years in the UK and especially in London due to the large Muslim population residing in the capital. Therefore it would be reasonable to assume that it would be extremely easy to locate halal cosmetic products. However as noticed by many Muslim women living in London, this is not the case…

So what makes a cosmetic product halal? “Halal” which means “permissible” refers to anything that is lawful within the Islamic Law. Islam prohibits the consumption or intentional skin contact with pork, alcohol and animal blood. Halal skincare and cosmetics range from lipsticks to eyeliners that are produced without a trace of animal blood, pork and alcohol.

Based on Google Trends, online searches for “halal make up products” have been steadily on the rise since 2013. This shows that there is a demand for it more than ever before.

Well known make-up and departments stores across the country, such as Debenhams and Superdrug are yet to release a halal cosmetics range. This has led to Muslim women such as Samina Akhter to create their own cosmetic range.  Akhter set up Samina Pure Make-Up in 2010 because she felt uneasy praying whilst wearing makeup she knew was not considered halal. Samina Pure Make-Up is the first company in the UK to sell halal certified make-up. She caters for Muslim women “who want to look good but also follow their faith”. Therefore by wearing halal make up the barrier between religion and beauty no longer exits.

Following Samina’s lead many other Muslim women have started to open their own online boutique’s selling their halal cosmetics. However it still not as readily available as some women would like. The accessibility to these products still has a long way to go especially with the demand increasing.

@Bar London has also realised that there is a need to cater to the wishes of Muslim women and have been sourcing halal and vegan cosmetics with a view to becoming stockists.

Keziah Keren Cosmetics, which are completely Halal Certified, are one of the new additions to @Bar London – The Brown Beauty Boutique. They are a British company, suitable for diverse skin tones with superior coverage and a lightweight feel. They have a various range of make-up products such as mineral foundations, lipsticks, eye shadows, eyeliners, creams etc.

A variety of Keziah Keren Cosmetics’ products are online at The Brown Beauty Boutique.
